Your website might be your busiest salesperson, or it might be quietly losing customers. Without analytics you can’t tell which. Analytics turns “I think the website is doing okay” into answers you can act on.
Questions analytics can answer
- How many people visit, and where do they come from (Google, social media, ads, referrals)?
- Which pages do they read, and where do they leave?
- How many contact you by form, phone or WhatsApp, and from which pages?
- Which marketing channels bring customers, not just clicks?
Measure outcomes, not just traffic
Visits are easy to count and easy to misread. What matters is what visitors do. Set up the actions that matter to your business as conversions:
- quote or enquiry form submitted,
- WhatsApp, phone or email click,
- purchase (for online stores),
- brochure or price list downloaded.
Once those are tracked, you can see which pages and channels produce results and focus your effort there.
Common set-up mistakes
- Analytics installed but no conversions defined.
- Tracking breaks after a redesign and nobody notices.
- Campaign links without UTM tags, so everything shows up as “direct”.
- Staff visits counted as customers.
- No consent handling for analytics cookies.
Choosing a tool
Google Analytics 4 is free, powerful and integrates with Google Ads. For WordPress sites that want privacy-first analytics with data stored on their own server, our own Blue Lens Analytics plugin is cookieless by default and tracks forms, clicks and downloads out of the box. Some businesses use both.
Make it a habit
Numbers only help if someone looks at them. A short monthly review (what brought enquiries, what changed, what to try next) is enough to steadily improve results.
